RPOF Sells Crist Oil Painting on eBay for $7,700
The day Gov. Charlie Crist made his announcement to abandon the Republican party, Republican Party of Florida Chairman John Thrasher told the media one of the first things he would do would be to take down the portrait and sell it on eBay. Looks like he made good on that promise.
Less than two weeks after Crist announced, his former Republican colleagues have sold the painting of him that hung on the RPOF headquarters' wall for a profit. It auctioned on eBay for $7,700, according to an announcement released Wednesday.
That portrait was one of two oil paintings commissioned by former RPOF Chairman Jim Greer. At an original cost of $7,500 for the set, the paintings represented one of the several lavish expenses Greer made at the party's expense.
"Before Charlie Crist took the easy way out," the statement reads, "Crist and his handpicked Chairman Jim Greer drained RPOF coffers, spending lavishly on themselves including chartering helicopters for baggage, passing out a top-dollar contract to Crists college roommate, and even commissioning twin oil paintings that cost RPOF donors $7,500."
The RPOF says they're now trying to clean up the mess left behind by the old guard of the party.
"The completion of todays auction was just the beginning," the statement continued. "The corrupt days under the leadership of Charlie Crist and Jim Greer are behind us!"
