Ultrasound Veto Furthers Crist's Move Away from GOP

To probably nobodys surprise, Gov. Charlie Crist vetoed a controversial bill Friday that would have required women considering abortion to have an ultrasound first. The veto of a bill that was a priority for Republican lawmakers further distanced himself from his former party.

To nobody's surprise and with little fanfare, Gov. Charlie Crist Friday vetoed HB 1143, a bill that would have required women seeking an abortion to first have an ultrasound and pay for it themselves rather than with taxpayers' money.

The veto, possibly Crist's last, furthered his rift with Republican Party leaders, prompting the furor of many of the bill's supporters.

Independent, Third Party Candidates Crowd Florida Political Races

While Gov. Charlie Crist and gubernatorial candidate Bud Chiles are getting most of the attention, Florida is seeing a large number of independents taking on both the Democrats and Republicans in the 2010 elections.

Its exciting, said Michael Tupper, campaign manager for independent congressional candidate Troy Stanley who has offered a conservative challenge to veteran Republican U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw.

AIF Backs Marco Rubio for U.S. Senate

Associated Industries of Florida (AIF), a business advocacy group with more than 100,000 members, just announced they are backing former House Speaker Marco Rubio, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate.
