FairDistricts Amendments Now Before Court
Hours after a judge threw out a legislatively-proposed constitutional amendment dealing with the rules for drawing political boundaries, backers of two other ballot questions seeking to change the way redistricting is done were in court defending theirs.
The two remaining proposals still slated, as of now, to be decided by voters in November, seek to keep lawmakers from trying to protect incumbents or political parties when they take on the once-a-decade task of redrawing Senate, House and congressional boundary lines.
Property Owners in Oil Spill's Path Sue Northwest Florida Appraisers
Northwest Florida residents are suing property appraisers in three counties because they want to know now whether the oil spill in the Gulf has devalued their properties.
For property appraisers and those attempting to calculate the economic cost of the spill, the owners are asking for too much, too soon.
I think its totally unreasonable, said Okaloosa County Property Appraiser Timothy Pete Smith, one of the appraisers named in the suit. We dont have enough data to make any decisions at this time.

Florida Chamber of Commerce Backs Adam Putnam in Agriculture Race
The Florida Chamber of Commerce made its first endorsement for statewide office this election cycle on Thursday afternoon backing U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam, the Republican candidate running to be the next state agriculture and consumer services commissioner.
Congressman Putnam has been a longtime proponent of greater government efficiency and a careful steward of taxpayer dollars, said Steve Halverson, board chairman of the chamber. I am confident that he will bring that same common-sense leadership to the Florida Cabinet.

Bill McCollum Comes Out Against Oil Drilling Amendment
Attorney General Bill McCollum, currently running a tight contest with health care executive Rick Scott for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, said he did not think Gov. Charlie Crist needed to call a special session of the Legislature to advance a constitutional amendment to ban oil drilling in state waters.
