Florida Chamber of Commerce Backs Adam Putnam in Agriculture Race
The Florida Chamber of Commerce made its first endorsement for statewide office this election cycle on Thursday afternoon backing U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam, the Republican candidate running to be the next state agriculture and consumer services commissioner.
Congressman Putnam has been a longtime proponent of greater government efficiency and a careful steward of taxpayer dollars, said Steve Halverson, board chairman of the chamber. I am confident that he will bring that same common-sense leadership to the Florida Cabinet.
Halversons comments were echoed by a familiar political face whois the incoming board chairman of the chamber -- former House Speaker Allan Bense.
At no other time in Floridas history has it been more critical to elect leaders that are dedicated to keeping the doors to Florida businesses open, said Bense. Congressman Putnam understands the important role Florida businesses play in our states economy, and has a track record supportive of economic growth, job creation and a less intrusive government.
I am honored to be the first candidate for commissioner of agriculture, and the first statewide candidate this election year, endorsed by the Florida Chamber of Commerce, said Putnam. The chambers initiative to endorse a candidate in this race for the first time in their history shows that Floridians from all industries recognize the importance of this office and this race. I look forward to working with the Florida chamber to ensure a welcoming business environment, job growth and retention, and a competitive economic environment for our great state.
