With Barack Obama winning more than 66 percent of the district in 2008 and Democratic U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor winning more than 70 percent of the vote that year, Republican Mike Prendergast, a retired Army officer and one time aide to U.S. Sen. Bob Graham, has his work cut out for him if he wants to knock off the incumbent.

Immigration Groups Petition Gubernatorial Candidates to Oppose Arizona Law for Florida

The Florida Immigrant Coalition wants gubernatorial candidates Rick Scott and Alex Sink to pledge their opposition to any law similar to the one recently passed in Arizona allowing law enforcement officers to detain illegal immigrants during routine traffic stops. A petition, signed by a slough of immigrant advocate groups, as well as the Florida Catholic Conference, the NAACP and the ACLU, will be delivered to the Miami offices of each candidate Wednesday.

Connie Mack Takes Aim at Hugo Chavez and Obama's Foreign Policy

Republican U.S. Rep. Connie Mack targeted Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez on Tuesday -- and ripped into the Obama administration for not standing up to him.

Mack, the ranking Republican on the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, noted that Chavez was continuing a world tour to push his countrys oil exportation.

Mike Huckabee Backs Mike Prendergast for Congress

Republican congressional candidate Mike Prendergast, who is taking on Democratic U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, received a boost on Tuesday in his bid to knock off the incumbent when he was endorsed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Huckabee, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 and is considering making another attempt in 2012, backed Prendergast through HuckPAC.

Dissing Friedman, Libertarian Chairman Runs For The Border

Libertarian Senate candidate Alex Snitker isn't looking to pick a fight with his party, but he quibbles with the immigration statement put out by the national chairman, Mark Hinkle.

In a news release, "Time to Re-Legalize Immigration," Hinkle says it's time to demolish the "myth" that a welfare state acts as a magnet for illegal immigration. Bottom line: Hinkle wants to legalize illegal behavior, and let Americans pay the price.

That looks to be the tactic of Democrat Congressman Alan Grayson's latest ad featuring four senior citizens panicked out of their minds because Dan Webster, Grayson's Republican opponent in CD 8, is going to cut $1,000 a year from their Social Security. Just yank it right out of there, is what he's going to do.
