Pam Bondi Calls for Ken Feinberg to Extend Payment Date

With a report that traces of oil surfaced off the coast of Louisiana this past weekend, Republican attorney general candidate Pam Bondi weighed in on the matter.

Regardless of the federal governments efforts to downplay the ongoing existence of oil in the Gulf of Mexico, the oil from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill is still very much present and still a threat to our states, our economies, our beaches and our businesses, said Bondi.Even six months after the spill, it is still too early to determine what the total effect of this disaster will be for every Floridian and small business impacted. I urge Ken Feinberg, the administrator of the Gulf Coast Claims Facility, to extend his cutoff date for emergency payments indefinitely, because we are still assessing the damages and may not know the full extent of the costs for years to come.

Floridas leaders should continue applying pressure on BP and Mr. Feinberg to do everything possible to make those affected by this disaster whole, including individuals, businesses, and government entities, added Bondi. An efficient and effective claims process is essential, and I believe we should take every action possible to continue fighting for our state and its citizens and businesses.
