Gov. Scott Quashes Idea of Calling Special Session on Immigration

The St. Pete Times is a little behind the times. A blog posted Friday related:

"Palm Beach County Republican Party chairman Sid Dinerstein plans to ask the state GOP's executive committee [Saturday] to pass a resolution calling on Gov. Rick Scott to call a special legislative session ... to pass an E-Verify immigration bill."

The Fix Was in at Miami Univision: Only Spanish Mayoral Candidates Invited

Ethnic tensions bubbled to the surface in Miami-Dade's mayoral race as non-Spanish speaking candidates complained they were excluded from a debate this week.

May 12, 2011 - 6:00pm

Contrary to Charlie Sheen-esque claims of a "winning" legislative session, Republicans settled for a watered-down compromise on public pension reform and punted on other key labor issues.

No Love for These Messy Florida Bugs

May 12, 2011 - 6:00pm

Bad news, Floridians. Scientists have no plans for exterminating those greasy love bugs that are splattering your car grill and windshield.

The seasonal swarms of plecia nearctica have been particularly heavy in South Florida, where the moisture-seeking bugs have been hydrated.

But, according to experts at the University of Florida, this year's first crop -- a second typically emerges in August or September -- is no worse and no bigger than usual.
