It looks like a wet and jittery weekend in Florida.

After stalling in the Caribbean and dumping boatloads of rain on the Dominican Republic, Tropical Storm Emily is meandering toward the Sunshine State -- though no one knows exactly where.

Jon Huntsman to Speak at CPAC Event in Orlando

On Thursday, the American Conservative Union (ACU) announced that former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, who is running for the Republican presidential nomination, will speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) event held in Orlando on Sept. 23.

Huntsman, who has based his campaign in Orlando, has already committed to taking part in a straw poll held by the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) during their Presidency 5 event which will occur in Orlando at the same time as the CPAC meeting.

PSC to Consider Nuke Costs for Customers

State regulators next week will plunge back into questions about expanding nuclear power in Florida -- and consider the down payment that residents and businesses will have to make in 2012.

Florida Power & Light and Progress Energy Florida are seeking to pass along about $335 million in nuclear costs to customers next year. While a large chunk of the money would go toward upgrading already-existing nuclear plants, customers also would cover expenses for new plants that are not slated to start operating for at least another decade.

With Mitt Romney Holding Back, Other Republican Hopefuls Barnstorm Iowa

With little more than a week to go until the Iowa straw poll in Ames, some of the Republican presidential candidates continued to beef up their operations in the Hawkeye State, which holds the first presidential caucus.

Having won a number of straw polls -- including two held at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in 2010 and earlier this year -- U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas looked to continue his success in the events.

RPOF Will Seat More Delegates for Presidency 5 Summit, Straw Poll

The Republican Party of Florida is reopening delegate selection to boost numbers at its upcoming Presidency 5 summit.

An e-mail from a regional party worker indicated that P5 "is still slightly under the goal for delegates."

RPOF field coordinator Rob Richmond stated in the e-mail, obtained by the Phoenix News Network and reviewed by Sunshine State News, that all alternate delegates will be immediately elevated to full delegate status.

Insurance Consumer Advocate: Slow the Sinkhole Rate Increase

Robin Wescott, Florida's newly-appointed insurance consumer advocate, is calling for a thorough review of a request by Citizens Property Insurance to raise sinkhole coverage premiums by 429 percent statewide; and even if the increase is warranted, to slowly implement it.

Wescott wrote letters Wednesday to Office of Insurance Regulation Commissioner Kevin McCarty and Citizens' executive director Scott Wallace, urging an "incremental" approach to the proposed rate increase.
