Sen. Alan Hays Says Haridopolos Blocked $62 Million Workers' Comp Reform

March 18, 2012 - 7:00pm

The failure of a single bill to reach the Senate floor -- a controversial one that Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty claimed would lower workers compensation costs for businesses -- doomed the parent trigger for school choice in the final days of the 2012 session.

Sen. Alan Hays, R-Umatilla, one of the original supporters of the Parent Empowerment Act, cast his vote against the act in the waning hours of the regular session on March 9, causing the bill, better known as the parent trigger act, to die in a 20-20 vote.

Good for Rep. Debbie Mayfield and Scripps TC Newspapers

I talk a lot about what mainstream media do wrong, so I don't want to forget to point it out when one among them does something right.

Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers -- the newspaper group that includes The Stuart News, The Port St. Lucie News, The Fort Pierce Tribune and the Vero Beach Press-Journal -- produced an editorial on Monday applauding state Rep. Debbie Mayfield, R-Vero Beach for saving Florida taxpayers $41.8 million.

As Republicans across the state hit the polls on Tuesday to vote in the primary, a poll released on Monday finds Mitt Romney has a large lead in Illinois.

WaPo: Obama Was Incompetent, Arrogant Liar at Debt Negotiations

President Barack Obama's performance during last summer's debt negotiations was fraught with incompetence, arrogance and outright lying, the Washington Post reports.

In case you missed it -- and you probably did if you rely on the mainstream media -- a soul singer dropped the F-bomb repeatedly at an Atlanta fundraiser for Barack Obama.

Cee Lo Green hurled the vulgarity twice and flipped off the crowd during a blue rendition of his song, "F--- You," videos showed.

Obama, who was waiting in the wings at Tyler Perry Studios, has repeatedly called for "civility" in public discourse, but he never uttered a peep about Green's blue performance.

Gas Prices Continue Steady Climb Across Florida

Gas prices in Florida continue to increase at a slow but steady pace that is expected to continue into the summer.

A gallon of gas, on average, went from $3.79 to $3.82 in the past week across the Sunshine State, according to AAA.

The fact that oil prices are showing some stability is a positive, but retail gas prices are still on the rise, Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman, stated in a release.
