Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum Attack Each Other in New Ads

The two leading candidates for the Republican presidential nomination -- former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts and former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania -- hit the airwaves and each other on Tuesday.

Following their candidates lead from Monday, the Romney team hammered Santorum for comments that he made about the economy this week. For all those who still had questions, Rick Santorum has now provided a textbook example of what an economic lightweight looks like," said Gail Gitcho, a spokeswoman for Romney.

State Leaders Want Trayvon Martin Investigation Above Emotions and Politics

Gov. Rick Scott said before any special panel is created to look into race relations or revisit the Stand Your Ground law, the investigation into the death of Trayvon Martin should be allowed to proceed unimpeded.

Speaking to reporters in his Capitol office on Tuesday, Scott said the state should wait to take any actions until the results are completed into the investigation hes called for by Florida Department of Law Enforcement to proceed alongside those of the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice.

Billionaire Bundler Susan Crown to Obama: Bye-Bye, I'm Backing Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney is looking to kick President Obama in the two places it will hurt him most -- his wallet and his home state. Romney's latest conquest is Obama's old pal, Susan Crown.

Crown says she is supporting a more pro-Israel candidate this year. Instead of supporting Barack Obama as she did in 2008, she's fundraising for Mitt Romney.

GOP Presidential Race Moves to Louisiana

With Illinois having its say on Tuesday, Louisiana, which will have 46 delegates at the GOP convention in Tampa, is next in line with a primary on Saturday -- and the Republican presidential candidates are starting to focus on it.

This primary is shaping up to be the most important GOP presidential battle in the Pelican State since 1996, when Pat Buchanan effectively set himself up as the conservative alternative to Bob Dole by crushing Phil Gramm in the Louisiana caucus, which was actually held before Iowa in that election cycle.

Florida Poll: Keep Government Out of Business

A poll by the Florida Coalition for the New Economy concluded Florida voters dont want local governments competing with private business.

The survey of 801 Florida voters showed 73 percent oppose allowing local governments to use taxpayer funds, including federal stimulus dollars, to compete against the private sector. Only 14 percent favor using taxpayer funds for this purpose, while 13 percent were undecided.

Mike Huckabee Goes to Bat for Dan Webster

While Democrats plan to target U.S. Rep. Dan Webster, R-Fla., in November, the freshman congressman can count on the support of an old ally -- former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, best known for his bid for the GOP presidential nomination in 2008 and for his various media appearances, including a show on Fox News and a national radio show set to be launched later this year.

Sen. Oscar Braynon Blasted for 'Politicizing' Trayvon Martin's Death

In the aftermath of the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, state Sen. Oscar Braynon's call for hearings into the "Stand Your Ground" law drew sharp return fire on Tuesday.

The Miami Democrat raised questions about the legal circumstances surrounding the shooting of Martin, 17, by an Orlando neighborhood watch volunteer last month.

But gun-rights groups and libertarians rejected Braynon's suggestion that the Stand Your Ground law, also known as the Castle Doctrine, should be implicated in the actions of alleged gunman George Zimmerman.

State Investigating Palm Beach County Voting Fiasco

Investigators from the secretary of states office are in Palm Beach County trying to determine how an error in the countys electronic-tabulating software resulted in the wrong results in two races.

Until I hear back from my people, were not going to make any conclusions or any ideas of what happened, Secretary of State Ken Detzner said Tuesday.

With the 2012 elections on the horizon, Detzner said members of his office are working with local elections officials and makers of the hardware and software.

Marco Rubio Raises Profile as Buzz Grows for 2012 and Political Future Beyond

Marco Rubio drew national attention for his win in the 2010 U.S. Senate race when he drove the heavily favored Charlie Crist out of the Republican Party to run with no party affiliation and started generating buzz that he'd wind up on a Republican presidential ticket in 2012 or down the road.

That buzz grew louder this week as Rubio announced that the publication date of his new book, "An American Son," will be moved up to June 19 -- leading to increased speculation that he could wind up on the GOP ticket in the vice presidential spot.

Adam Putnam Anticipates Another Busy Wildfire Season

During a reception for firefighters on the 22nd floor of the Capitol on Monday, Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam said a number of fires -- some controlled burns -- were on the horizon.

Putnam told Gov. Rick Scott and other members of the state Cabinet on Tuesday that dry conditions again have placed the state in line for an active wildfire season.

All indications are that it will be yet another busy fire season for all our state resources managers and firefighters, Putnam said.
