Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum Attack Each Other in New Ads
The two leading candidates for the Republican presidential nomination -- former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts and former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania -- hit the airwaves and each other on Tuesday.
Following their candidates lead from Monday, the Romney team hammered Santorum for comments that he made about the economy this week. For all those who still had questions, Rick Santorum has now provided a textbook example of what an economic lightweight looks like," said Gail Gitcho, a spokeswoman for Romney.
The Romney team also launched a Web ad in which they ran a clip of Santorums endorsement of their candidate back in the 2008 election cycle.
The Santorum team fired back with a new national radio ad hitting Romney for flip-flops on a host of issues.
Sometimes things are just funny because they're so true, said Hogan Gidley, a spokesman for Santorum, before ripping into Romney. "One minute he's at Planned Parenthood fundraisers writing personal checks, the next he's a great defender of the unborn. One minute he's defending English as our national language, then he goes to Puerto Rico and tells voters speaking English isn't important. After six years of running for president, the voters know Mitt Romney -- and they realize Governor Romney has no core principles and will say and do anything for votes."
