June 28, 2012 - 6:00pm

The state and the opponents of a suspended voter registration law are moving toward a settlement in a lawsuit over the new rules, both sides said Thursday, even as a group of voters is trying to brush aside the state's legal strategy and pursue an appeal.

In a brief scheduling conference Thursday with U.S. District Court Judge Robert Hinkle, who struck down new regulations on third-party voter registration organizations at the end of last month, an attorney for the groups said the two sides were close to striking a deal.

Pam Bondi: Obamacare Backers Disguised $4 Billion Tax

June 27, 2012 - 6:00pm

The state is going to take its time deciding just how to react to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that imposes health care as a tax on all citizens.

But Florida officials who were at the heart of the challenge to the law wasted little time criticizing the court for upholding what they view as the White House's imposition on individual freedoms.

Attorney General Pam Bondi blamed the Obama administration for a lack of political accountability in disguising the mandates in the Affordable Care Act as not being a $4 billion tax.

Palm Beach Post's Gotcha Oopsie

Sometimes finger-pointing and/or stone-throwing can jump up and bite you in the arse.

It certainly did to the Palm Beach Post Thursday morning, when the Post first sent a tweet announcing a defeat for Obamacare at the hands of the Supreme Court, then moments later "Post on Politics" takes Florida's Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater to task for "jumping the gun" on the ruling like "CNN".

Kinda funny, actually. Have a look below.

Obamacare Decision Trickles Down to First Coast GOP Senate Primary

With the Supreme Court of the United States on Thursday upholding most of the federal health-care law that President Barack Obama signed in 2010, the impact of the decision is already shaping state and local politics.

For example, on Floridas First Coast, two Republicans -- former Rep. Aaron Bean and Rep. Mike Weinstein, R-Jacksonville -- are battling in the August primary to replace term-limited Sen. Steve Wise, R-Jacksonville. Both Bean and Weinstein came out swinging against the decision on Thursday afternoon.

After Obamacare Decision, Libertarians Say Don't Vote for Mitt Romney

The National Libertarian Party's reaction to the SCOTUS Obamacare decision transcends disappointment. In fact, it's fairly incredulous. It goes after Mitt Romney like a vulture after road kill.

Carla Howell, the party's executive director, explains it like this: "A President Mitt Romney would not undo Obamacare. Hed make it permanent."

She claims the high court ruling matters not a hoot: "It will make little difference to America in the short run, and no difference in the long run."
