You know that old adage: when the economy is in the tank, tour the Everglades? Well, no, we don't either, but the lefties sure do -- I can still picture a tanned and smiling Gov. Charlie Crist with the beautiful sawgrass swaying in the breeze behind him.

With new poll numbers showing perceptions of the economy in the toilet, here comes the president tossing out the Everglades card for the second time in two weeks, sending Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar for a 'Glades photo op.

As incumbents bow out of office, two Republican candidates appear poised to win open state Senate seats in the northern half of the Sunshine State come November.

With an open shot at the Republican nomination as current incumbent, Steve Oelrich runs for Congress; attorney Rob Bradley, who rose to become chairman of the Clay County Commission, is a heavy favorite to win an open seat in SD 7, representing Alachua, Baker and Clay counties.

Souring Attitudes on Economy a Growing Concern for Obama's Chances

Warning signs to President Barack Obama and his re-election campaign team are coming in the form of the latest CBS/New York Times survey and Americans' souring perception of the state of the country's economy.

The poll reveals that belief that the economy is getting better among registered voters nationwide has dropped by almost a third since April, falling from 33 percent to a dire 24 percent. Seven in 10 Americans now say the economy is in bad shape.

SD 39: Ron Saunders Leads Crowded Dem Primary in Money Chase

With Sen. Larcenia Bullard, D-Miami, heading to the sidelines due to term limits, a crowded field of Democrats -- including three representatives who served together in the Florida House -- are battling it out in the Aug. 14 primary.

Five Democrats are running for the SD 39 seat, which stretches across Collier, Hendry, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

Pam Bondi: Alcoholism Cure Scheme ‘Abhorrent’

A Jacksonville company has been ordered to pay more than $730,000 in a bogus alcoholism cure scheme, according to the attorney generals office.

Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Federal Trade Commission announced Thursday obtaining a court order to require the Alcoholism Cure Corp. to pay more than $730,000 to consumers and from continuing to sell their treatments.

According to the complaint, the company prescribed dietary supplements through memberships for about $350, with the pitch that they could cancel the membership at any time.

GOP Senate Leadership Backs Tom Lee Over Rachel Burgin

The Republican leadership in the Florida Senate rallied behind former Senate President Tom Lee on Thursday as he seeks to return to Tallahassee. Lee faces Rep. Rachel Burgin, R-Tampa, in the Republican primary on Aug. 14 for the seat currently held by Sen. Ronda Storms, R-Brandon, who is running for Hillsborough County property appraiser.

Study to Advance JaxPort Dredging May Begin in 2013

A study needed to bring larger ships into JaxPort may be moved up a year -- from 2014 to April 2013 --according to the Florida Times-Union.

The news, timed to create a positive atmosphere among business leaders in the northeast city for President Obamas campaign visit, would advance a $1.4 million Army Corps of Engineers study on deepening the channel.

The Jacksonville Port Authority and other port advocates have been pushing to upgrade facilities to handle increasing global maritime trade and the ongoing widening of the Panama Canal.

Washingtonians: Rick Scott Rocks, Barack Obama Shocks

While Democrats in Florida continue to look for ways to cash in on Rick Scott's low approval numbers, since Saturday a lot of folks in D.C. are looking at the Florida governor with a whole lot more admiration and respect than he's getting currently in the Sunshine State.

It's his travel philosophy they like. And it's President Obama's that has these folks pitching fits.

Seems last Saturday President Obama commissioned Air Force One to travel 90 miles from the White House to a campaign rally near Richmond, Va., a location only 90 miles away.
