Washingtonians: Rick Scott Rocks, Barack Obama Shocks

While Democrats in Florida continue to look for ways to cash in on Rick Scott's low approval numbers, since Saturday a lot of folks in D.C. are looking at the Florida governor with a whole lot more admiration and respect than he's getting currently in the Sunshine State.

It's his travel philosophy they like. And it's President Obama's that has these folks pitching fits.

Seems last Saturday President Obama commissioned Air Force One to travel 90 miles from the White House to a campaign rally near Richmond, Va., a location only 90 miles away.

"He's doing that all the time, raising campaign cash at taxpayers' expense," Arnold Butcher, a tea party organizer in Washington, D.C., told Sunshine State News Wednesday night. "When he heads down to Florida to hit the stump, he'll be arriving on Air Force One then, too.

"You want to point out the difference to Big Spender Obama between his philosophy on air travel and the Florida governor's. Your governor understands frugality and can pinpoint waste and excess in government. That's why he got rid of the state planes. A lot of us admire that. Good for him."

The reason the D.C. locals were so disgusted on Saturday was that the cost of flying Air Force One is currently about $180,000 per hour, according to ABC News. Instead, Obama could have used Marine One, the presidential chopper, which would have taken him door to door in 45 minutes at a far lower cost. Only a portion of the cost is borne by the campaign.

According to Jim Smithson on PhoenixNetwork.us, "In June, Obama held 33 fundraisers about eight times the number held by Bush during his re-election effort in June 2004 traveling literally from coast to coast to supply his operations with desperately needed cash."
