Dane Eagle, a former staffer in the Crist administration who rose to deputy chief of staff to the governor, is looking to return to Tallahassee -- with the support of Republican leaders and business groups that his old boss bucked to run instead as an NPA U.S. Senate candidate.

Feds Roll Out the Bucks for Florida Transit Projects

Florida landed more than $50 million of the $787 million that the federal government doled out Monday for bus line and transportation repair and construction projects.

The funding distribution comes on top of the $1.8 billion the feds dished out for transit projects in the prior two years.

In an election-year press release styled to cheerlead for the president, U.S. Transporation Secretary Ray LaHood said this: President Obamas support for an America built to last is putting people back to work across the country repairing and upgrading our nations public transit systems.

SD 26: Bill Galvano Looks to Return to Tallahassee

After an open seat in Florida Senate, former state Rep. Bill Galvano looks to be smooth-sailing his way to a Tallahassee return in November.

Galvano has an open shot at the Republican nomination for SD 26, to represent parts of Charlotte, Highlands and Hillsbrough counties and all of DeSoto, Glades, Hardee and Manatee counties. The Brandenton Republican is well-known in Tallahassee for his eight years in the Florida House. First elected in 2002, he represented parts of Hillsborough and Manatee counties until he faced term limits in 2010.

Rick Scott Orders Florida to Join National Tribute to Aurora Victims

Gov. Rick Scott, following President Obamas proclamation, has ordered state and national flags outside local, state and federal buildings, installations and grounds in Florida to be lowered to half-staff through sunset Wednesday in honor of the victims of the July 20 movie theater mass shooting in Aurora, Colo.

Obama ordered American flags to be flown at half-staff at all public buildings, as well as embassies and military bases overseas and naval vessels.

Dennis Baxley Backs Dave Weldon Over Connie Mack for Senate

While he is an underdog to defeat U.S. Rep. Connie Mack for the Republican nomination to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in November, former U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon unveiled the support ofone of the leading conservatives in the Florida Legislature on Monday -- Rep. Dennis Baxley. R-Ocala.

Baxley, who had been in charge of the state chapter of the Christian Coalition, praised Weldon on Monday as he endorsed him, pointing to his record on guns and social issues.

WWE Star, Pigs and Mud Wrestling Appear in GOP Congressional Hopeful's New Ad

Businessman and large-animal veterinarian Ted Yoho unveiled one of the more colorful commercials of the 2012 election cycle on Monday as he continues his bid to defeat U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns in the Republican primary on Aug. 14. Yoho launched a commercial featuring pigs and men in suits -- one of them professional wrestler Dustin Runnels who is best known for his stint in the WWE as Goldust -- throwing mud at each other representing career politicians -- namely Stearns, state Sen. Steve Oelrich and Clay County Clerk of Court James Jett.
