Martin County Sheriff Robert Crowder, one of the most popular lawmen in county history -- with a 47-year history of serving his community and the Republican Party -- looks around today at his lonely campaign for U.S. Congress, knows it's a long shot at best and admits he knows why.

He backed Democrat Alex Sink in the 2010 gubernatorial election. No -- he did more than that. He campaigned for her, on national television and in high-profile TV spots.

For those who believe Charlie Crist is positioning himself for a run at returning to the governors mansion, he has added some fuel to the fire after writing a critique of Gov. Rick Scotts effort to remove non-U.S. citizens from the lists of registered voters.

Pam Bondi: Five 'Cross-Fletcher Hot Boys' Get 70 Years

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Friday that five members of the Tampa street gang Cross-Fletcher Hot Boys were collectively sentenced Friday to 70 years in prison plus 64 years of probation.

Dijon Johnson, 25, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, to be followed by four years probation, after pleading guilty to racketeering, conspiracy, resisting officers with violence, and drug conspiracy charges.

Former Dem Lawmaker Dawson Gets 6 Months for Tax Evasion

Former Democratic state lawmaker Mandy Dawson was sentenced to six months in federal prison for tax evasion on Friday.

She must turn herself in by Oct. 5 to begin serving her term, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

As Floridas unemployment mark has slowly ticked down the last year and a half, two tracks have remained in place among the counties:

Walton, Monroe, Okaloosa, and Franklin counties, predominately rural communities that have a large dependence upon government -- have held the lowest monthly marks. Why? A little because of tourism jobs, but the greater factor is that Eglin Air Force Base aids both Okaloosa and Walton.

Government jobs prop up the employment picture.
