Noncandidate Charlie Crist Calls Nonvoter Review 'Political'

For those who believe Charlie Crist is positioning himself for a run at returning to the governors mansion, he has added some fuel to the fire after writing a critique of Gov. Rick Scotts effort to remove non-U.S. citizens from the lists of registered voters.

In a piece posted on the Washington Post website on July 20, Crist points out that when he was Floridas attorney general any actions he took against illegal voting were undertaken out of respect for our democracy.

But as for the ongoing efforts under Scotts direction, Crist claimed, Im concerned that zealots overreacting to contrived threats of voter fraud by significantly narrowing the voting pool are doing so with brazen disrespect and disregard for our greatest traditions.

This is just the most recent example of a mean-spirited and all-too-partisan attempt to restrict access to the rolls and to the polls, Crist wrote.

Now an independent with a wife who has recently registered as a Democrat, Crist added that meddling with voting rights is un-American.
