Rick Scott: 4,500 Jobs on the Way as Wawa Opens, Digital Risk Expands

Floridas newest job creator opened Wednesday in Central Florida.

The world of Wawa -- or what the company calls Wawa Land.

The suburban Philadelphia-based convenience and build-to-order hoagie shop drew several hundred people, including Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Lottery Secretary Cynthia O'Connell, to celebrate the migration of the company to Orlando.

And Gov. Rick Scott later announced that another company -- Digital Risk -- has 1,000 more jobs on the way.

As he seeks a second term in the Florida House, Rep. Steve Perman, D-Boca Raton, faces a primary challenge from the man he replaced -- former Rep. Kevin Rader.

In 2010, Rader, who was elected to the House in 2008, ran unsuccessfully for the Florida Senate, allowing Perman to run for the open seat. Now they are clashing in the primary on Aug. 14.

SD 4: First Coast GOP Rivals Unveil Endorsements

Two Republicans battling it out in the Aug. 14 primary for an open state Senate seat representing parts of the First Coast scored major endorsements on Wednesday.

Tom Slade, the former chairman of the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF), announced on Wednesday that he is backing former Rep. Aaron Bean over Rep. Mike Weinstein, R-Jacksonville, for the SD 4 seat that represents all of Nassau and parts of Duval County.

In his battle against former Rep. Aaron Bean for the Republican nomination for a seat in the Florida Senate representing parts of the First Coast, Rep. Mike Weinstein, R-Jacksonville, garnered a major endorsement on Wednesday, as well, when the Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police announced it was backing him.
