Florida Announces Online Job Postings Up 15 Percent in September
A day after highlighting that openings in STEM related jobs in Florida are up online, the Governors Office noted that the number of positions to be filled have grown 15.1 percent in the past year.
A release from the state Department of Economic Opportunity, emailed out from the Governors Office on Wednesday, noted that there were 368,575 jobs posted online in September, up 35,277 from the same period in 2011.

Voters will get a chance to see the one time that longtime U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Orlando, has agreed to sit with his Republican challenger, Rep. Connie Mack, R-Fort Myers -- tonight (Oct. 17) at 7 p.m.
The televised forum being held at Nova Southeastern University in Davie comes as a new Rasmussen Reports poll on Monday showed the race tightening into a 46-45 contest, with Nelson holding the edge.

Bids are now being sought to dig into the PortMiami channel to one of the deepest depths on the East Coast, moving the $220 million state and county project closer to construction.
The port project, which highlights Floridas efforts to capture growing international trade as well as the anticipated larger ships traveling through an expanded Panama Canal, is currently scheduled to begin construction in 2013 and be completed in sync with the canal work in early 2015, PortMiami announced on Tuesday.

For the nearly two years Ken Pruitt was president of the Florida Senate, when most of the press labored to ignore his statesmanship, Don Gaetz was paying close attention. He admired the Port St. Lucie Republican's leadership style and said so Tuesday.
In fact, he said he wants to be president the Ken Pruitt way when he takes over officially next month.
"Ken Pruitt is one of my heroes," Gaetz told members of the Tallahassee press corps during an informal luncheon in the Capitol.
