City of Pembroke Pines: Cellphones May Cause Cancer

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that the City of Pembroke Pines has become the first in the Sunshine State to pass a resolution warning residents that radiation from cell phones might cause cancer:

"Holding your cellphone up to your ear could be hazardous to your health. Now, one South Florida city wants to make sure you know it.

"Inspired by a resident's cancer survival story, Pembroke Pines passed what's thought to be the first resolution in the state to warn residents about the possibility of cellphone radiation causing cancer.

Citizens Chairman: ‘We Will Win Back Credibility in the Eyes of the Public’

As Gov. Rick Scott has called for an investigation into how internal issues have been handled, Citizens Property Insurance Corp. board chairman, Carlos Lacasa, vowed Tuesday the bloated state-backed insurance provider will regain its "credibility."

We will win back credibility in the eyes of the public, Lacasa said as the board opened a workshop on Tuesday in the Capitol.

Chris Dorworth Joins Ballard Partners

Former State Rep. Chris Dorworth, who was in line to become House speaker, has joined the government affairs firm Ballard Partners.

Dorworth, who was narrowly upset by Rep. Mike Clelland, D-Lake Mary, in the general election, will run the Tallahassee-based firms Orlando office.

PSC Gives Thumbs Up to Nuclear Costs

State regulators Monday approved allowing Florida Power & Light and Progress Energy Florida to collect nearly $300 million from customers next year to help upgrade decades-old nuclear plants and to take steps toward building new reactors.

The state Public Service Commission unanimously approved the proposals, which will lead to FPL customers paying about $151 million and Progress customers paying about $143 million.
