Legalizing Marijuana: The Conversation in Florida Has Begun

Encouraged by anti-prohibition ballot victories in three states Nov. 6, marijuana legalization advocates in the Sunshine State are bringing the fight for greater personal liberty and medical freedom straight to the Florida Capitol.

And theyre confident that reform is just what the doctor ordered.

I truly believe this is the year we're going to see some leadership on this issue, Jodi James, executive director of the Florida Cannabis Action Network (FLCAN), tells Sunshine State News. FLCAN calls itself the states leading cannabis (i.e., marijuana) reform group.

State, Christian College Settle Constitutional Fight

Settling a federal lawsuit that involved questions about the school's "secular purpose," state education officials will allow students at a Central Florida Christian college to be eligible for a popular grant program.

Florida Christian College filed a constitutional challenge this year that stemmed from the state's refusal to allow students at the Kissimmee school to receive money from the Florida Resident Access Grant program.

Rick Scott to Assist With Turkey Dinner at East Naples Homeless Shelter

Gov. Rick Scott will return to St. Matthews House in East Naples on Thursday to help prepare the annual Thanksgiving dinner.

Officials at the homeless shelter estimate they feed nearly 7,000 people during the Thanksgiving holiday through a turkey and grocery give-away and a sit-down dinner on Thursday afternoon.

Scott and first lady Ann Scott helped serve Thanksgiving dinners last year at the shelter.
