Garrett Richter: Gambling Committee Will Move Deliberately

The head of a new committee in the Senate set to focus on gaming issues says he expects the panel to conduct a thorough study of gambling in Florida instead of moving quickly.

Sen. Garrett Richter, a Naples Republican who also serves as president pro tempore, said Wednesday that he viewed the recent redistricting process, which included several summer hearings across the state in 2011, as a potential model for the Senate Gaming Committee.

True, nobody tried harder than Charlie Crist to suck up to the president during the 2012 presidential campaign. Nobody got more photo ops along the campaign trail.

But if you can believe Democratic National Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz -- and this time you probably can because she and Obama enjoy a closer relationship since the election -- the former Republican-governor-of-Florida-turned-Independent isn't in line to cash in on all that loyalty.

Rick Scott Breaks Ground on Melbourne's Embraer Aircraft Facility; 200 Jobs in 5 Years

Gov. Rick Scott was in Melbourne this morning helping to break ground on Embraer Aircraft's new Engineering and Technology Center, a $50 million capital investment expected to bring 200 jobs to the Space Coast city over the next five years.

With the governor for the event was Frederico Curado, president and CEO of Embraer S.A., and Gary Spulak, president, Embraer Aircraft Holding Inc.
