Rick Scott Breaks Ground on Melbourne's Embraer Aircraft Facility; 200 Jobs in 5 Years

Gov. Rick Scott was in Melbourne this morning helping to break ground on Embraer Aircraft's new Engineering and Technology Center, a $50 million capital investment expected to bring 200 jobs to the Space Coast city over the next five years.

With the governor for the event was Frederico Curado, president and CEO of Embraer S.A., and Gary Spulak, president, Embraer Aircraft Holding Inc.

As we continue to create a better business climate, we are also bringing more jobs to Florida, Scott said in a news release. These 200 new jobs mean more families will be able to bring a paycheck home, and although our work isnt done, well continue to work to grow jobs so every Florida family can enjoy the American dream.

Embraers 67,000 square-foot facility will conduct research and development for both product and technology across the company's business lines. Embraer is one of the worlds leading aircraft manufacturers for commercial, agricultural and executive aviation, in addition to defense and security support. It is only the second research and development facility established outside of their headquarters in S Josdos Campos, Brazil.

Embraer plans to partner with universities and other educational institutions in the U.S. and in Florida to develop programs of mutual benefit. The vast majority of employees are expected to be hired locally.
