Floridas unemployment hit 8 percent to end 2012, down 0.1 of a percentage point from November and 1.9 points from a year earlier, according to the state Department of Economic Opportunity.
Florida has now recorded job gains in 14 of the last 18 months, with the top gains coming in the fields that include hospitality, transportation, private education and health care.
The mark is the lowest for the state since November 2008, when it was 7.8 percent.
The state continues to lag behind the national mark of 7.8 percent.

The governors office released a long list of support for the Gov. Rick Scotts fiscal support to build up Floridas ports, highlighted by $13 million for Port Everglades on Thursday and $36 million for JaxPort on Monday.

As ground was ceremonially broken for the new rail project at Port Everglades on Thursday, Gov. Rick Scott made his second funding commitment this week to bulk up one of Floridas seaports.
The governor directed $13 million for the Southport Turning Notch Extension at Port Everglades, which will provide more dock space, while attending the ground breaking for the 42.5-acre Intermodal Container Transfer Facility, which when completed next year will be the nations only combined on-port cargo rail facility.
The Sunshine States premier tax watchdog group published 25 recommendations Thursday which it says, if implemented, would save the states taxpayers over $1 billion. The proposals include the collection of an Internet sales tax and the return of state lands to the private sector.
Following the release of an audit that called the travel expenses at state-backed Citizens Property Insurance Corp. ambiguous and lacking internal control, Gov. Rick Scott wants the company to follow state travel rules and cut out international trips.
Scott decided not to wait the 20 days that Citizens was given to respond to the audit report, issuing his own statement on Thursday saying it is clear from the (inspector generals) findings that Citizens is in urgent need of four reforms.

I applaud the governor for developing realistic solutions to fix a serious problem, Weatherford stated in a release.
The House will take a close look at these recommendations as we determine the best steps to take to resolve the issue.
