Sen. Oscar Braynon Files Docs vs. Glocks Repealer

A 2011 law restricting how doctors can talk to patients about guns would be repealed under a bill filed Tuesday in the state Senate.

Sen. Oscar Braynon, D-Miami Gardens, filed the measure (SB 314) to repeal the 2011 "Firearm Owners' Privacy Act," which isn't currently being enforced because a federal judge threw it out in July. The state, however, is appealing that ruling.

The law prevents doctors from asking patients questions about whether they have guns in their house.

Julius Davis Named to Enterprise Florida Board of Directors


Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Julius D. Davis, owner of VoltAir Consulting Engineers in Tampa, to the Enterprise Florida Inc. board of directors.

Davis, 43, currently serves on the Hillsborough County Community College board of directors, the University of Tampa Fellows Council and the City of Tampa Planning Arts Committee.

He succeeds Frederick W. Leonhardt for a term that ends July 1, 2016.

Rick Scott Brings on Two More Job Creators

Gov. Rick Scott appears to have upped his crisscrossing of the state since the start of the new year to announce the Sunshine State was getting new private sector jobs, something he described Tuesday morning as both the greatest success of his first two years and the greatest failure.

On Tuesday, the announcements were for 110 jobs and $6.6 million in capital investments by Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) in Temple Terrace and 16 jobs in Manatee County with the expansion of the aviation and marine products manufacturer Radiant Power Corp.

Jimmy Patronis Designated Chair of Defense Support Task Force

Florida Congressmen Introduce Two Bills Seeking 'Beach House Bailout'

The R Street Institute, a free-market think tank headquartered in Washington, D.C., today expressed strong opposition to the recent introduction of HR 240, the Homeowners Insurance Protection Act, and the pending reintroduction of the Homeowners Defense Act, both bills that it says would create a federal bailout fund for state catastrophe reinsurance programs.

Trayvon Martin’s Mother to Back Bill to Repeal 'Stand Your Ground'


The mother of Trayvon Martin will be in Floridas Capitol on Wednesday as part of a Democrat-run media conference announcing legislation to repeal the states Stand Your Ground law.

Sybrina Fulton is to be joined in the Capitol rotunda by Rep. Alan Williams, D-Tallahassee, and Sen. Dwight Bullard, D-Miami, who are seeking to repeal theUse of Deadly Force in Defense of a Person statute.
