State Board to Vote on Making Pam Stewart Education Commissioner
Interim Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart may take on the job as full-time commissioner of education on Tuesday.
The state Board of Education is expected to vote on Tuesday to hire Stewart for the job instead of launching a national search. Stewart has held the position for six weeks since Tony Bennett resigned.

Navy Yard Victims Honored in Florida With Flags at Half-Staff
On Monday, after the Washington Navy Yard shootings which left 13 dead, Gov. Rick Scott ordered flags across the Sunshine State lowered to half-staff until Friday.
In honor of the victims at the Washington Navy Yard, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the state of Florida to be flown at half-staff at all local, state and federal buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the state of Florida, Scott wrote on Monday. The flags shall be lowered immediately and remain at half-staff until sunset on Sept. 20, 2013.
