Carlos Lopez-Cantera will officially be sworn in as Florida's 19th lieutenant governor on Monday.
Gov. Rick Scott announced Lopez-Cantera's appointment to the position in January after it had been vacant for over 10 months. Former Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll resigned from the post in March 2013 after being interviewed by law enforcement officials about work she did for a charity that prosecutors said was a front for a gambling ring.

With state Senate Republican leader Lizbeth Benacquisto planning to announce her candidacy for Trey Radel's seat in Congress, Chauncey Goss announced Monday morning he does not intend to run to replace Radel.
According to News Press, Goss says he "has too many business obligations -- he has his own consulting business that helps clients with federal budget issues -- and family considerations to join the race for Congress."
