Chauncey Goss Not Running for Trey Radel's Seat

With state Senate Republican leader Lizbeth Benacquisto planning to announce her candidacy for Trey Radel's seat in Congress, Chauncey Goss announced Monday morning he does not intend to run to replace Radel.

According to News Press, Goss says he "has too many business obligations -- he has his own consulting business that helps clients with federal budget issues -- and family considerations to join the race for Congress."

Goss also said, with children only a few years away from starting college, "his responsibility to his family takes first priority over the commitment needed to serve as a representative in Washington, D.C."

Radel resigned last week after months of scrutiny surrounding his October arrest for misdemeanor possession of cocaine in Washington, D.C. He initially took a leave of absence, but ultimately faced a formal investigation from the House Ethics Committee and resigned from his post.

The primary election to replace Radel will take place April 22 and the general election will be held on June 24.
