Carlos Lopez-Cantera will officially be sworn in as Florida's 19th lieutenant governor on Monday.
Gov. Rick Scott announced Lopez-Cantera's appointment to the position in January after it had been vacant for over 10 months. Former Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll resigned from the post in March 2013 after being interviewed by law enforcement officials about work she did for a charity that prosecutors said was a front for a gambling ring.
Prior to his appointment, Lopez-Cantera served as Miami-Dade County's property appraiser and represented District 113 in the Florida House of Representatives. The former Republican majority leader will also be Scott's running mate on the 2014 ballot.
