Dorothy Hukill's Communications Tax Cut Passes Senate Committee

Florida Sen. Dorothy Hukills, R-Port Orange, proposal cutting the state communication services tax (CST) by 2 percent flew through the Communications, Energy, and Public Utilities Committee on Tuesday, passing with unanimous support. Hukill insists her proposal will save Florida taxpayers more than $240 million in cable, satellite TV, fax and cellphone charges.

This will be a statewide savings of $242 million per year, said Hukill on Tuesday. It is my hope that this will bring monthly relief for Floridas families.

Charlie Crist Kicks Off National Book Tour

Former Gov. Charlie Crist kicked off a national tour to promote his new book "The Party's Over," in which he attempts to explain what led him to change from a longtime Republican to an independent and then a Democrat.

While Crist will discuss his book, the tour is another opportunity for the former governor to get back into the spotlight and familiarize himself with Florida voters.

Obama and the Grievance Industry

From one point of view, President Barack Obama's invocation of the hoary "77 cents" myth regarding the relative earnings of women and men was a shallow and cheap political pander. Democrats, eager to maintain their advantage with women voters, stoke grievance. It's the same playbook they've used to solidify their standing with black voters -- suggest whenever and wherever possible that Republicans are racists. It's crude, offensive and libelous -- but effective.
