Florida GOP Ahead of Republicans Across Nation Against Career Politicians

Florida is always seen as something of a model for the nation’s future politics as America grows older and more Hispanic. In recent years, Republicans from the Sunshine State tapped into a trend which is now taking over the GOP across the nation: disgust with career politicians. 

More Democrats Gunning for Dan Webster's Hide

Even with redistricting still up in the air, U.S. Rep. Dan Webster, R-Fla., could be facing two new opponents. Under the base map used by the Legislature earlier this month to draw up new congressional districts, Webster would face a far different district than he did in either of his past congressional elections. He currently represents parts of Orange and Polk counties and most of Lake County. Under the base map the Legislature is using for congressional redistricting, his new district would be far more Democratic, taking in only parts of Orange County and bringing in 150,000 voters -- more than 90,000 of them Democrats -- currently represented by U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown, D-Fla.

A year until the primary to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., in the Senate, the two leading Democratic candidates continue to pound away at each other with both of them trying to pin Wall Street on their opponent. Rubio is running for the Republican presidential nomination and is not expected to run for a second Senate term.

Gov. Rick Scott named Tom Delacenserie as the interim secretary of the Florida Lottery to replace Cynthia O’Connell. Earlier this week, Politico Florida ran a story focusing on O’Connell racking up almost $30,000 in travel expenses and being excessively absent.

Joe Biden Headed to South Florida to Sell Obama's Iran Deal

With buzz growing that he could enter the Democratic presidential primaries, Vice President Joe Biden is heading to South Florida next week to make the case for President Barack Obama’s deal with Iran over its nuclear program. 

Biden was asked by U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), to speak to Jewish leaders in South Florida. The vice president will be speaking to them on Sept. 3 in Miami. 

Wasserman Schultz weighed in on Thursday, saying she was excited to hear what Biden had to say. 

Gwen Graham's 'Quality Care for Moms and Babies Act' Draws Fire from GOP Rival

U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham, D-Fla., brought out the “Quality Care for Moms and Babies Act” this week and is facing fire from the right as one of her Republican opponents insists she is trying to change the focus from her support of Planned Parenthood. 

Graham showcased the bill at a media event on Tuesday. The proposal ensures more coordination between the federal government, state governments and health-care professionals to look at Medicare outcomes for pregnancies and infant care.
