Let's face it, Debbie Wasserman Schultz has a history of interfering in party politics. She put her thumb on the scale in two races that we know of. Mrs. Buttinsky Wasserman Schultz tipped the scales in favor of Allison Tant in 2013, sending the Florida Democratic Party to wander the desert since. The party has been beaten like it stole something in every race that mattered. It is totally irrelevant at this point.

Donald Trump won fair and square and, as Hillary Clinton said in her concession speech, is owed an open mind and a chance to lead. It is therefore incumbent upon conservatives (like me) who have been highly critical of Trump to think through how to make a success of the coming years of Republican rule.

As many of you know from my past columns, I haven’t been a fan of Donald Trump. Regardless, I always said I would vote for him given the alternative, which was much, much worse.

Anyone who thinks the mail-in-ballot fiasco in Broward County is over either isn't looking hard enough or doesn't want to know.

Each time I have the privilege of meeting the heroes who wore our nation’s uniform, I am reminded they represent the very best of America. From World War II and Korea to Vietnam and Iraq and Afghanistan, we would not be the nation we are today without those who served. 

In 2015, I retired from the United States Department of Justice after more than 25 years of service as an Assistant United States Attorney. Counting five additional years as an Air Force JAG circuit prosecutor, I am proud to be able to claim three decades of service helping to enforce the laws of this country.

Let's hope lawmakers whose heads are turned by the Everglades Foundation's "buy the land" bus tour and petition drive also saw Thursday's South Florida Water Management District news.
