Conservative Group Pressures Companies to Pull Ads from Controversial TV Shows

The Florida Family Association (FFA), led by executive director David Caton, continues to pressure companies that advertise their products on television shows with controversial content -- taking aim at shows on Spike TV and a branch of Nickelodeon.

Spike TVs Blue Mountain State continues to mock Christianity and push the envelope with very explicit material, wrote Caton. One of the new fall episodes of Blue Mountain State is titled Born Again. This episode belittles the confession of sin to God and mocks the relevance of the Christian church.

Connie Mack Tackles Immigration in Fight for Leadership Post

As he continues his campaign against U.S. Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., to become the next chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, the fifth ranking member of the GOP leadership in the House, Sunshine State Republican U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, touched on immigration Monday.

Mack has raised eyebrows for opposing bringing an Arizona-style law on immigration to Florida, but he called for secure borders in a memo he sent to his Republican colleagues in Congress.

George W. Bush: Jeb's Not Running in 2012

Politicalwire is reporting that former President George W. Bush said his brother Jeb, the former governor of Florida, will not run for president in 2012. The statement was made in an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News slated to be aired Tuesday night. The former president said that while he hopes his brother runs in 2012, Jeb has no intention of doing so.

Ron Saunders Names House Democratic Leadership Team

With incoming House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, announcing on Friday that he would name Rep. John Legg, R-Port Richey, as speaker pro tempore and Rep. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, R-Miami, as House majority leader, on Monday incoming House Democratic Leader Ron Saunders of Key West responded by naming key members of his leadership team.

Rick Scott and Rick Perry Follow Same Game Plan and Ignore Newspaper Boards

Rick Scott was not alone in ignoring editorial boards and shrugging off questions about whether or not newspapers backed his opponent.

Mark McKinnon of the Daily Beast shows how Republican Gov. Rick Perry of Texas did the same thing -- and won by an even bigger margin. Alex Sink Tears into the White House

Less than a week after her defeat to Republican candidate Rick Scott in the gubernatorial race, state CFO Alex Sink, the Democratic nominee, weighed in on the election with Jonathan Martin at Politico. Sink ripped into the Obama administration, saying that Scott ads linking her with the president helped doom her candidacy. She also argued that the White House was sleepwalking -- ignoring political realities on a number of fronts.

There are some familiar names on Putnams team -- former CIA Director and U.S. Rep. Peter Goss, Ambassador John Rood, former Speaker Allan Bense and attorney Tracy Duda Chapman.

Bill McCollum Files Motion for Summary Judgment in Health Care Lawsuit

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum filed a motion for summary judgment Friday in the lawsuit -- joined by 19 other attorneys general -- against the Affordable Care Act, the federal health care overhaul.

The lawsuit claims the health care law is unconstitutional because it mandates that individuals procure health insurance coverage. Oral arguments in the case will be heard Dec. 16 in Pensacola.

On Friday, incoming Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, named Rep. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, R-Miami, as House majority leader. Cannon named Lopez-Cantera, who has been in the House since 2004 and served as majority whip, to replace term-limited House Majority Leader Adam Hasner, R-Delray Beach.

John Legg Named Speaker Pro Tempore

On Friday, incoming Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, tapped Rep. John Legg, R-Port Richey, as speaker pro tempore of the Florida House.

Legg, who represents parts of Pasco County, was first elected to the House in 2004 and served as deputy majority whip. Part of Leggs task, besides wielding the gavel when Cannon is off the floor, will be communications issues.
