Ed Markey Retains Solid Lead Over Gabriel Gomez in Massachusetts Senate Race

Republicans should not be counting on a second Massachusetts miracle on Tuesday. Suffolk University unveiled a poll on Monday showing Democratic candidate U.S. Rep. Ed Markey with a solid lead over Republican hopeful Gabriel Gomez in the battle for the U.S. Senate seat vacated when John Kerry became secretary of state. Markey takes 52 percent in the poll while Gomez gets 42 percent of those surveyed.

Tampa Port Authority Unanimously Keeps Officers in Place

Last week, the Tampa Port Authority held board officer elections and, on Monday, it was announced that the current officers were unanimously selected to continue in their positions.

William Hoe Brown will continue as chairman while Stepehen Swindal remains vice chairman and Carl Lindell is the secretary/treasurer.

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, past chairman Lawrence Shipp, Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandy Murman and Patrick Allman will also remain on the board.

Dan Raulerson Backs Blaise Ingoglia for Florida House

The Republican leadership in Tallahassee continues to rally behind Republican Party of Florida Vice Chairman Blaise Ingoglia who is running for the Florida House in 2014. Ingoglia is running for the seat currently held by Rep. Rob Schenck, R-Spring Hill, who faces term limits next year. The seat represents parts of Hernando County and, currently, Ingoglia is the only candidate in the race.

On Monday, Rep. Dan Raulerson, R-Plant City, announced he was backing Ingoglia.

Allen West: John Boehner Should Subpoena Obama

Over the weekend, former Congressman Allen West, a favorite of the tea party movement who has left open the possibility of a political comeback in 2016, suggested U.S. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, subpoena President Barack Obama to testify before Congress on a host of issues.

Recently, the entire uniformed leadership of the U.S. military was brought before the Senate Armed Services Committee on the subject of sexual assaults. They are being held responsible, West posted on Facebook on Sunday.

Marco Rubio Becoming Less Popular With GOP in National Poll

A new poll finds U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is starting to become increasingly less popular with conservatives as he continues to be front and center on immigration reform.

A Rasmussen Reports poll released on Monday finds 58 pecent of Republicans across the nation have a favorable view of Rubio -- down from 68 percent in a Rasmussen poll from May. Rubio is seen as unfavorable by 16 percent of Republicans while 25 percent are undecided. Rubio is expected to seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.

Edward Snowden, Cuba and Ecuador Draw Fire From Florida Congresswoman

Over the weekend, as the world wondered where Edward Snowden, the former CIA analyst who leaked NSA information to the press, is headed, U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., ripped into the Cuban regime. Snowden was expected to be headed to Cuba but he was not on a flight to that communist nation on Monday.

Donald Trump Heads to Iowa to Ramp Up the 2016 Talk

Another name was added to the list of possible presidential candidates heading to Iowa to speak at the Family Leadership Summit in August-- businessman and reality star Donald Trump. Over the weekend, Trump announced he would be speaking at the event, setting off buzz that he could run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016. Trump opened the door to running in 2012, generating a lot of publicity before he said he had no intention of running.

Gary Johnson Promises to Fight for Same-Sex Marriage in Florida

Former Gov. Gary Johnson of New Mexico, the Libertarian Partys presidential candidate in 2012, vows to be active in support of same-sex marriage in Florida.

Late Friday, Johnson announced his Our America Initative would give full backing and support to Equality Floridas efforts to legalize same-sex marriage in the Sunshine State.

Miami Heat the Odds-on Favorite to Win Again in 2014

Less than 24 hours after they won their second NBA title in a row and the Miami Heat are the odds-on favorite to win it next year.

Bovada gives the Heat 2-1 odds to threepeat in 2014 with the Oklahoma City Thunder behind them at 11-2. The Chicago Bulls have the third best odds (Bovada must feel really optimistic about Derrick Rose coming back from injuries) at 15-2 followed by the San Antonio Spurs at 17-2.
