The U.S. Supreme Court has declared unconstitutional Section 4 of theVoting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965; five Florida counties --Collier, Hardee, Hendry, Hillsborough, and Monroe -- will no longer need to receive federal preclearance before implementing new voting laws.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen Sounds the Alarm on Haitian Relief
During her tenure as chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., joined ranking Democrat U.S. Rep. Howard Berman of California to ask the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to investigate relief efforts in Haiti which is still recovering from a major earthquake in 2010. Broward Police Union Loses Appeal in 'Financial Urgency' Case
A three-judge panel ofFlorida's 1st District Court of Appeal has denied the appeal of the Broward Police Benevolent Association (PBA) from a decision by the statePublic Employees Relations Commission, upholding the right of the city of Hollywood to declare a state of "financial urgency" more than once during a fiscal year.
The court did not accompany its ruling with a written opinion.

Rick Scott Weighs in On Bci's Purchase of City National Bank
Gov. Rick Scotts trade mission to Chile continues to produce results for Florida. On Monday, Gov. Rick Scott noted that he met with Bci Bank, one of the largest banks in Chile, when he was there in May. Bci recently bought City National Bank of Florida, which, at more than $880 million, is the largest Chilean investment ever in an American company.
