Ander Crenshaw: 'Time for the IRS to Come Clean'
U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, R-Fla., the chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee for Financial Services and General Government, weighed in on Monday after receiving the IRSs 30-day report on targeting conservative and tea party groups. Crenshaw also spoke with IRS Principal Deputy Commissioner Daniel Werfel on Monday.
I told Commissioner Werfel his work investigating the outrageous actions of IRS was appreciated; however, his agencys reputation remains heavily tarnished, Crenshaw said in a statement late Monday. The IRS betrayed the trust of the American people, and theres still a lot of questions to be answered.
In my initial review of the report, I find a disturbing lack of clarity when we need a crystal clear picture of who ordered this targeting and why, especially in light of the IRSs admission that a broader number of groups were singled out for review, added Crenshaw. Theres still a lot we dont know, and its time for the IRS to come clean. Congress appropriates more than $10 billion in hard-earned taxpayer dollars each year [of the] agency operations. Before we allocate the agency one more dime, we need to know exactly how it spends the money it already receives.
