With U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz insisting on an appearance on Face the Nation on CBS on Sunday, labeling some Republicans candidates as the extreme right-wing fringe, the Republican facing her in November is calling her out on it.

Tuesday's Sunshine State News has an in-depth report on Josue Larose, a write-in candidate for governor. Most candidates of Larose's stature would be pleased to have the exposure through free media, but Larose's spokesman, Peter Lincoln, apparently didn't like the tone of our questions about his boss's finances, so he sent this e-mail (style, syntax and punctuation are his):

Passing up a chance at free media -- or perhaps exercising damage control -- Charlie Crist will be a no-show this Sunday on MSNBC's "Meet the Press" program. Crist's nominal excuse is that he has prior campaign engagements. Really? There are no remote hookups from the hustings? The guv can't spare the time? What gives? This strategy is hard to figure ... unless you consider the concern that Crist may not fare well in the three-way debates with Kendrick Meek and Marco Rubio. As the "independent," Crist could get it from both sides, pundits say.

Usnews.com's Jessica Rettig wrote an article Monday detailing the chances of Democrats and Republicans in the upcoming general election. Among the more interesting portions is a quote from the director of Public Policy Polling, Tom Jensen: "Crist or Rubio would have to self-destruct for Meek to have a chance at winning." Of course, that still leaves Gov. Charlie Crist, who "may be the Democrats' best bet on the November ballot."

At last report, Senate candidate Charlie Crist said he was "open" to union card-check legislation that would effectively end secret-ballot elections for union representation. We don't know what he told Florida Teamsters behind closed doors, but their endorsement of the governor last week suggests he passed the test on this key union perk.

Attorney General Bill McCollum, who lost the Republican gubernatorial primary to Rick Scott last week, told an Orlando TV station over the weekend he wouldn't -- because he just couldn't -- support Scott against Democrat Alex Sink. He apparently has too many questions about Scott's past at the helm of Columbia/HCA.

Recent reader comments on this site took me to task for underselling Mike Huckabee's clout in the Florida primary ... and overstating Sarah Palin's. While Huckabee's endorsement couldn't turn the trick for gubernatorial candidate Bill McCollum or 24th Congressional District hopeful Karen Diebel, he did back GOP winner Daniel Webster in CD 8, another spirited race. Meantime, Palin's pick in the closely grouped attorney general contest, Pam Bondi, outdueled Jeff Kottkamp and Holly Benson (who got late backing from Newt Gingrich).

Poor Charlie Crist. He can't stop talking out of both sides of his mouth. When asked this weekend whether he would return early GOP campaign contributions, the Republican-turned-independent told CNN, "We'll give it (campaign contributions) back to people who had asked for it." Yep, just like disgraced GOP Chairman Jim Greer, who got his $9,600 refunded from the guv after making his request in writing. But hold on. Crist went on to add: "People gave money to a good cause, I'm going to spend it on a good cause and that's how I feel about it."

Former House Speaker Marco Rubio, the Republican nominee in the U.S. Senate election, continues to hammer Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running without party affiliation, for constantly shifting his position on new federal health-care laws backed by President Barack Obama. After Crist appeared on CNNs State of the Union Sunday morning and talked about the laws, the Rubio camp quickly fired off a release, claiming this was the seventh time Crist had changed his position on the measures.

Based on a PolitiFact.com investigation, a report on CNN Sunday morning disclaimed -- in fact, shredded -- Glen Beck's ominous warning that his "Restoring Honor" rally Saturday would likely be "the last large gathering" ever allowed at the Lincoln Memorial.

Former House Speaker Marco Rubio, the Republican nominee in Novembers U.S. Senate election, tackled agriculture issues on Friday, maintaining that Washington was a roadblock to profitable farming.

Ken Connor, former head of the Family Research Council and a candidate in the Republican gubernatorial primary back in 1994 who is now with the Center for a Just Society, took aim at the Obama administrations policy on stem-cell research and praised a federal injunction issued earlier in the week blocking it in an essay released on Friday.

Former House Speaker Marco Rubio, the Republican candidate in the U.S. Senate race, continued his rise into national prominence by offering the weekly Republican radio address -- and he took aim at Washington. Today the American dream is threatened by out-of-control politicians in Washington, who think that more government deficit spending is what it takes to grow our economy, said Rubio. That has never worked anywhere its been tried and it wont work now.

Today in Orlando, about a thousand volunteers for Relay For Life will welcome and recognize Rep. Marti Coley as the American Cancer Society, Florida Division's 2010 Legislator of the Year in the Florida House of Representatives. Coley, the Marianna representative, will be honored for her cancer research efforts by the American Cancer Society, who "recognized her successful efforts to promote state-funded, peer-reviewed and competitive cancer research," according to their release.

According to the Republican Party of Florida, Gov. Charlie Crist has just reached his sixth position on health care in five months. And recently, he took two different positions in the span of just two hours.
