Meek and Crist Still Likely to Lose to Rubio

Usnews.com's Jessica Rettig wrote an article Monday detailing the chances of Democrats and Republicans in the upcoming general election.

Among the more interesting portions is a quote from the director of Public Policy Polling, Tom Jensen: "Crist or Rubio would have to self-destruct for Meek to have a chance at winning."

Of course, that still leaves Gov. Charlie Crist, who "may be the Democrats' best bet on the November ballot."

Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, claims "the Republicans won't accept him ... conservative Republicans can't stand Crist."

Plus, support for Crist also means less support for Meek, leaving Rubio with a greater chance of winning.

Democratic organizations like the Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Florida Democratic Party -- even former President Bill Clinton -- continue supporting Meek, although Sabato anticipates that "the party's unofficial stance may shift by late October."His prediction is, "the party has to give Meek every opportunity to do well ... Then, when he doesn't, and when the polls continue to show him in third place, they can say, 'Oh, this is terrible. This is horrible. We did everything we could. It looks like now it's only Crist vs. Rubio. Hint, hint.'"
