Karen Harrington Takes Aim at Wasserman-Schultz's 'Extreme Right-Wing Fringe' Comment

With U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz insisting on an appearance on Face the Nation on CBS on Sunday, labeling some Republicans candidates as the extreme right-wing fringe, the Republican facing her in November is calling her out on it.

"More and more people are coming to the realization that Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is not a Democrat in the vein of either John F. Kennedy or Franklin D. Roosevelt, and that the Democratic Party is no longer the party that represents the average American," said Karen Harrington early Tuesday, who won the primary last week to take on Wasserman-Schultz.

"Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, along with President Obama, represents a new kind of Democrat that believes in unprecedented levels of government intervention and control -- from politically-motivated bailouts disguised as investments that directly advantage her party's constituency groups at the expense of others, to previously unimaginable levels of unsustainable deficit spending, to the government takeover of many sectors of the economy that were previously privately owned, to the government's takeover of our health-care system that will directly jeopardize the quality of health care that citizens will receive, added Harrington. These are direct assaults on our liberties as well as the principles our nation was founded upon.For Debbie Wasserman-Schultz to label candidates as extreme who believe in respecting uniquely American principles that made us the most prosperous nation on earth -- principles such as free markets, individual liberty, and respect for constitutional restrictions on government power -- clearly shows the levels of her deceptiveness and her lack of intellectual integrity.

"There is nothing extreme about requiring fiscal responsibility or accountable budgeting in government -- practices that are both prudent and necessary for families and businesses to sustain themselves, continued Harrington. If average Americans can run their own family budgets and small businesses within their means, why can't the federal government do the same? The answer is simple: Debbie Wasserman Schultz and President Obama have no interest in doing so, and they have made it their election-year strategy to blame others and create confusion as they attempt to deceive the public with rhetoric that sells their reckless policies as aiding an economic recovery, when in reality their policies are actually prolonging a recession, halting economic growth, freezing job creation by small businesses, and expanding our national debt in an unsustainable manner.

"Instead of appearing at countless numbers of campaign events for other candidates in congressional districts across the country at the expense of the one she purports to represent, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz would do well to familiarize herself with the extent of the opposition she has in the congressional district that she has taken for granted for far too long, concluded Harrington. She can delude herself into thinking that the majority of her constituents agree with her extreme views and reckless policies, but I can assure her that they do not.
