Politicalwire is reporting that former President George W. Bush said his brother Jeb, the former governor of Florida, will not run for president in 2012. The statement was made in an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News slated to be aired Tuesday night. The former president said that while he hopes his brother runs in 2012, Jeb has no intention of doing so.

With incoming House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, announcing on Friday that he would name Rep. John Legg, R-Port Richey, as speaker pro tempore and Rep. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, R-Miami, as House majority leader, on Monday incoming House Democratic Leader Ron Saunders of Key West responded by naming key members of his leadership team.

Rick Scott was not alone in ignoring editorial boards and shrugging off questions about whether or not newspapers backed his opponent. Mark McKinnon of the Daily Beast shows how Republican Gov. Rick Perry of Texas did the same thing -- and won by an even bigger margin. While McKinnon does not note that Scott did the same thing, he offers an interesting take on why politicians feel free to ignore the media, and why it often pays political dividends.

This native Californian was never prouder of Florida than on Election Night. While my home state was re-electing every state legislator (i.e., the ones who perpetuate the colossal fiscal mess in Sacramento), Floridians awoke from their Obama flirtation of 2008 and shifted back to the right. Some folks down in Southeast Florida may kvetch that we're becoming a one-party state for Republicans. But, from a dollars and sense standpoint, that's demonstrably better than being a Blue Gulag that elects even dead Democrats.

State Sen. Dave Aronberg may be out in left field politically, but he was right-on with his Tweet and YouTube posting about ACC referees trying to steal a win for Maryland against the University of Miami at Sun Life Stadium Saturday. This video says it all. In case you missed it, the Canes prevailed 26-20, even with a legitimate defensive touchdown wiped off the board.

It's been 10 years since Florida's infamous hanging chads. And Palm Beach County still sucks. Theresa LaPore is gone, but the Supervisor of Elections' office remains in Democratic hands, and it's still the laughing stock of the state. Falling behind early this election cycle, Susan Bucher's crew badly lagged every other county in Florida in processing absentee ballots. Then Election Night came, and matters got worse. Palm Beach was still in the throes of collecting ballots hours after virtually every other county had finished and gone to bed.

Less than a week after her defeat to Republican candidate Rick Scott in the gubernatorial race, state CFO Alex Sink, the Democratic nominee, weighed in on the election with Jonathan Martin at Politico. Sink ripped into the Obama administration, saying that Scott ads linking her with the president helped doom her candidacy. She also argued that the White House was sleepwalking -- ignoring political realities on a number of fronts.

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum filed a motion for summary judgment Friday in the lawsuit -- joined by 19 other attorneys general -- against the Affordable Care Act, the federal health care overhaul. The lawsuit claims the health care law is unconstitutional because it mandates that individuals procure health insurance coverage. Oral arguments in the case will be heard Dec. 16 in Pensacola.

On Friday, incoming Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, named Rep. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, R-Miami, as House majority leader. Cannon named Lopez-Cantera, who has been in the House since 2004 and served as majority whip, to replace term-limited House Majority Leader Adam Hasner, R-Delray Beach.

On Friday, incoming Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, tapped Rep. John Legg, R-Port Richey, as speaker pro tempore of the Florida House. Legg, who represents parts of Pasco County, was first elected to the House in 2004 and served as deputy majority whip. Part of Leggs task, besides wielding the gavel when Cannon is off the floor, will be communications issues.

Roll Call reported on Friday that incoming U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio will be giving the Republicans' radio response to President Barack Obama on Saturday. The move shows how highly regarded Rubio is by the Republican leadership -- allowing him to respond to the president after the GOPs big win on Tuesday.

Former New York Gov. George Pataki, who has an eye on the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, cheered Tuesdays election results. Pataki, who heads up Revere America, has been active in Florida backing Marco Rubios bid for the U.S. Senate, and Republican congressional candidates Steve Southerland, Allen West, Sandy Adams and Dan Webster.

Randall Terry, best known for his time with Operation Rescue and his role in the Teri Schiavo case, is taking aim at the new Republican majority in Congress. Its not just Sen. Jeremy Ring, D-Margate, calling for Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Karen Thurmans scalp. Peter Schorsch, best known for his service as the executive editor of St. Petersblog, has created a website demanding Thurmans removal after the elections Tuesday -- when Democrats lost four congressional seats, the gubernatorial race, were blown away in the battle for the three other Cabinet posts and became completely irrelevant in the Legislature as the Republicans gained veto-proof majorities.
