Florida Gov. Rick Scott weighed in on Saturday after businessman Herman Cain shocked the world by winning the Republican Party of Florida's (RPOF) Presidency 5 straw poll.

Businessman Herman Cain is attracting interest from college Republicans attending the P5 event in Orlando. However, GOP students continue to watch for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for a possible entry into the presidential race.

Florida state Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Shalimar, is backing Gov. Rick Perry of Texas for the Republican presidential nomination. Gaetz posted on Twitter on Saturday that supporters of former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts were voting for businessman Herman Cain in the RPOF Presidency 5 straw poll. Romney campaign is having their Presidency 5 delegates vote for Cain to skew results, insisted Gaetz. Cain has enjoyed some momentum in recent days and has ranked as one of the more popular candidates with P5 attendees.

As voting directions were given to delegates at the P5 straw poll Saturday in Orlando, a special comment was made for the Palm Beach delegation --asking if they, more than anyone else, understood the directions. The focus on Palm Beach County drew immediate laughter from many of the other 3,500 delegates throughout the Orange County Convention Center hall.

Gov. Rick Perry is opposed to amnesty for illegal immigrants and no illegal immigrant in Texas has received a handout for a free college education, said Michael Williams, former chairman of the Railroad Commission of Texas, campaigning at the P5 event in Orlando as surrogate for Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Delegates at the conference had expressed concerns about Perry after former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney said Thursday during the Fox News/Google debate that Perry supported a school program that would only encourage undocumented immigrants to enter the country illegally.

Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania spoke at the Presidency 5 event in Orlando on Saturday. Santorum played up the importance of the 2012 elections and once again pointed to his success in winning statewide elections in the Keystone State.

Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich told attendees at the Presidency 5 event in Orlando on Saturday that he admired a favorite son of the Sunshine State -- U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio. Gingrich added to an answer that he made in Thursdays debate and said he would consider having Rubio as his running mate if he won the Republican presidential nomination. Gingrich also saidif he won the Republican nomination he would challenge President Barack Obama to seven Lincoln-Douglas style debates.

Carole Jean Jordan, the former Republican Party of Florida chair under former Gov. Jeb Bush, was blunt against former Gov. Charlie Crist and another former RPOF chairman, Jim Greer, in her support for todays P5 straw vote. For the party, I think its a tremendous success, said Jean Jordan, now the tax collector for Indian River County.

Businessman Herman Cain spoke on Saturday afternoon at the Republican Party of Floridas (RPOF) Presidency 5 event in Orlando. Cain weighed in on economic issues and pushed his 9-9-9 plan for lower personal and corporate income taxes and a national sales tax.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that her office joined a lawsuit Friday with Nebraska and five other states to challenge a federal air pollution rule she said could cost residents and utility companies millions of dollars. Once again the EPA has imposed costly regulations on Florida based on a flawed process and without first working cooperatively with our state, Bondi said. "We will continue to protect Florida consumers and businesses from unnecessary and costly federal regulation. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Florida Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll didnt endorse anyone on the RPOFs Presidency 5 straw poll ballot, but she described her vision of the ideal candidate for delegates gathering Saturday morning at the Orange County Convention Center.
