On Friday, the team behind former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux fired away at U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, one of LeMieux's chief rivals for the Republican nomination to take on Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012. A Quinnipac University poll released earlier in the day showed Mack out front in the GOP primary field with 32 percent and LeMieux in second with 9 percent.

Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich has been building momentum in recent weeks and a CBS News poll released on Friday shows he has broken into the top tier of candidates for the Republican presidential nomination. The national poll found businessman Herman Cain remains in front with 18 percent, with Gingrich and former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts right behind him with 15 percent each. The poll of 382 likely Republican primary voters -- part of a sample of 1,029 registered voters -- was taken Nov. 6-10 and had a margin of error of +/- 5 percent.

Quinnipiac University released a poll Friday that showed Republican U.S. Rep. Connie Mack is running right behind Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in a possible 2012 match-up. Nelson takes 42 percent in the poll while Mack, who is expected in coming weeks to formally enter the race for the seat his father held for t12 years, garners 40 percent.

The South Florida Water Management District rescinded water shortage restrictions Thursday, finally giving farmers in the 16-county district a break. Lifting the restrictions will have the most impact on vegetable farmers, who saw their water allotments curtailed by 45 percent.

Businessman Ron Rushing, who is challenging Senate Majority Leader Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando, in the Republican primary, said, if he is elected, he will push back against the federal government -- which he maintains has exceeded its powers.
