Newt Gingrich figures to get a careful look from women at tonight's presidential debate from Iowa. The ABC debate, which starts at 9 p.m., is the first since the former House speaker took first-place in the GOP polls. And with less than a month until the Iowa caucuses, Gingrich will be under fire from competitors desperate to stay in the field. With stakes this high, personal attacks can't be ruled out.

Next week, Republicans in the Senate will be in for an interesting leadership fight as two senators elected for the first time in 2010 -- Roy Blunt of Missouri and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin -- duke it out to see who becomes vice chairman of the Senate Republican Conference. The contest certainly has ideological ramifications -- Johnson is a favorite of the tea party movement while Blunt, a veteran of the U.S. House, is considered more a favorite of the establishment.

Nancy Argenziano filed suit in circuit court Friday to overturn a state election law that prevents her from running for Congress as a Democrat. The former Public Service Commission chairwoman and lifelong Republican switched to the Independent Party earlier this year. By doing so, she locked herself into minor-party status under a new law that requires candidates to belong to the party with which they are running 18 months in advance of Election Day.
