Florida Republican Congressman Tom Rooney is hoping to honor the late Roy Rood, a prominentveteran and businessman, by naming a post office in Jupiter after him.

While he did not enter the race for the Republican presidential nomination, former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas shows no signs of heading for the sidelines. After his strong showing in the contest for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, Huckabee moved to Florida where he still resides. He will be signing books in Destin from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Magnolia House.

On Tuesday, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich sent out a letter to staffers and supporters insisting that he will generally refrain from exchanging attacks with his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination -- and keep his focus on President Barack Obama.

A survey of 12 swing states that Barack Obama carried in 2008 now finds the president losing to both Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich there. USA Today-Gallup -- polling registered voters in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin -- found Obama trailing Romney 43-48, and Gingrich 45-48. Because Obama is expected to hold the big states of California, New York and Illinois, he maintains a popular-vote advantage nationwide, where he leads Gingrich 50-44, and edges Romney 47-46.

As he rises in the polls to lead the field of candidates running for the Republican presidential nomination, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich is drawing fire from all sides -- including one of his chief rivals for the Republican nomination. With Gingrich leading in Iowa, which holds the first presidential caucus, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas is on the airwaves in the Hawkeye State running a new commercial with an indirect shot at the former congressional leader.

Ken Connor, who used to lead the Family Research Council and now is with the Center for a Just Society, offered his take on the Republican presidential race on Tuesday. Connor is known to Floridians for leading the state Christian Coalition and for his bid for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in 1994.

Three weeks away from the first presidential caucuses, thrice-married Newt Gingrich says he supports a fidelity pledge by a conservative Iowa family group. But he has yet to sign it. The GOP front-runner, who carried on multi-year affairs during his first two marriages, wrote an email to The Family Leader organization, pledging "to uphold the institution of marriage through personal fidelity to my spouse and respect for the marital bonds of others."

Having debated former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Monday, former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah now turns his sights on former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. Conyers Davis, Huntsmans deputy campaign manager, sent an email to Matt Rhoades, Romneys campaign manager, calling for a Lincoln-Douglas debate between the two men.

High school graduation is at an all-time high in Florida, reaching 80.1 percent, according to the state Department of Education. Since 2006, when the state rate was nearly 10 percentage points lower, black students' graduation has grown 11.5 percent, to 68.4 percent. Meanwhile, Hispanic graduation is up 13 percentage points, to 77.3 percent. For white students, the graduation rate is 86.8 percent, up 1.4 percentage points in one year.

The constitutionality of Broward Countys voter-approved term limits for its county commissioners will be decided by the Florida Supreme Court. The states top court agreed to hear the case on Monday.
