Tom Rooney Looks to Honor Florida Businessman

Florida Republican Congressman Tom Rooney is hoping to honor the late Roy Rood, a prominentveteran and businessman, by naming a post office in Jupiter after him.

Roy was a longtime resident and the founding father of my hometown of Tequesta, Fla., said Rooney. He dedicated his life to the service of his community and his country. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Roy joined the Navy, where he served with honor and distinction. After the war, he started a landscaping business that continues today. He helped found the American Legion Post in Tequesta, the local Kiwanis Club, the First Bank of Jupiter, and the Jupiter Christian School. Many of our local charitable organizations along the Treasure Coast are directly attributed to Roys efforts.

The family farm in Jupiter where Roy was born and raised, and where he learned the value of a hard days work, was also the location of the first Tequesta post office, added Rooney. I believe it would be a fitting tribute to Roy Roods life and legacy to name this post office in Jupiter in his honor.
