The camp behind former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich served notice that they intend to attack former Gov. Mitt Romney in South Carolina, releasing ads inthe Palmetto State critical of the former Massachusetts governor. Romney won the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday while Gingrich is battling former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania for fourth. Michael Krull, Gingrichs campaign manager, sent out a message to supporters on Tuesday night as the results came in.

With 1 percent of the vote in the New Hampshire primary, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas, who is a distant sixth-place finisher in the Granite State, shrugged off the results on Tuesday night.

Having won the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday night, Republican presidential hopeful former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts called out President Barack Obama. Romney took to the stage in Manchester to address supporters right after the networks declared him the winner. Tonight, we made history, Romney, who finished second in the Granite State in 2008 behind John McCain, told a cheering crowd. Romney took aim at Obama, hammering the Democratic incumbents record on the economy and attacking his failed leadership.

Having placed third in Iowa, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas won the silver in New Hampshire. With 18 percent of the votes counted, Paul took 25 percent of the vote -- placing him well behind former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts but ahead of the other candidates. With 17 percent, former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah took third. Huntsman focused on New Hampshire, ignoring Iowa.

Republican presidential hopeful and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was declared the winner of the New Hampshire primary Tuesday night, when TV networks and news agencies called it just after 8 p.m. EST. Polls had just closed in the Granite State. Romney became the first nonincumbent Republican presidential candidate to win both the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire presidential primary. Romney, who placed second behind John McCain in the 2008 presidential primary, dominated polls in the Granite State during the campaign cycle.

We're here a little bit earlier than last year, but ready to work. I want to thank the Cabinet once again for joining us. We look forward to a successful session to lift people up and make sure that we provide new opportunities once again in the great state of Florida. Before I begin, I want to say a few thank yous and make some comments about some of the challenges that we will face over the next 60 days.

The Florida Senate approved$10.75 million for Eric Brody, who suffered brain injuries in 1998 when his car was hit by a Broward sheriffs deputy. The bill must still go before the state House. Similar efforts have failed to win approval from both chambers in prior sessions. A priority of Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, the bill was initially filed in September for $15.575 million. The settlement amount remains far short of the $31 million a jury awarded against the Broward County sheriffs office in 2005.

Headed by the Florida Chamber of Commerce, a coalition of previously announced opponents to the destination gambling resorts bills now before the state Legislature reaffirmed their stance as the 2012 legislative session got under way Tuesday. The business group and its new coalition is titled Bad bet for Florida."

While most eyes are on New Hampshire where the Republican presidential hopefuls battle in the primary on Tuesday, We Ask America released a poll of the next state in the procession of primaries that will determine which candidate will challenge Barack Obama in November -- South Carolina, which holds its primary on Jan. 21.

Huntsman has focused heavily on the Granite State and is hoping for a strong showing in the primary on Tuesday. According to two polls released on Tuesday, Huntsman is in third place -- and is in a close battle with U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas to finish second behind former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts.
