Jon Huntsman Makes his Final Pitch in New Hampshire
Republican presidential hopeful former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman released his closing pitch to New Hampshire primary voters in a video released on Tuesday. Huntsman has focused heavily on the Granite State and is hoping for a strong showing in the primary on Tuesday.
According to two polls released on Tuesday, Huntsman is in third place -- and is in a close battle with U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas to finish second behind former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts.
"Our closing message to New Hampshire voters is about restoring trust and putting country first," said Tim Miller, a spokesman for Huntsman. Mitt Romney's closing message is about petty politics and firing people. That's a contrast we welcome."
Huntsman praises the spirt of New Hampshire in the video, talking about the state's motto of Live Free or Die.
It is the fulfillment of a citizenry being able to live out the meaning of our founding documents: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And everywhere Ive gone in this great state -- and weve done 160-plus public events, Huntsman says in the video. I feel it, and I sense it, and people take that very seriously. You know what else they take seriously? They take seriously the idea of real leadership.
Ive heard a lot of obfuscating up here, the blame game, talking about gays, talking about unions. Everybodys got something nasty to say. You know what the people of this country are waiting for and the people of ... they want a leader who is going to unify, whos going to bring us together. Because at the end of the day, thats what leadership is all about, Huntsman continues. "Its not about taking on different groups and vilifying them for whatever reason. Its about projecting a vision for a more hopeful tomorrow. Thats why there is no trust in this country today. And thats why, as president, Im going to attack that trust deficit just as aggressively as I attack that economic deficit. Because with no trust, I cant think of anything more corrosive longer term to the people of this nation.
