A coalition that includes New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the NAACP, the National Urban League and the parents of Trayvon Martin plan to hold a rally as the task force onStand Your Ground law meets in Longwood on Tuesday. The Second Chance on Shoot First campaign coalition plans to deliver a petition with 340,000 names asking the governors Task Force on Citizen Safety and Protection to reform or repeal the Stand Your Ground law.

A poll from Public Policy Polling (PPP), a firm with connections to prominent Democrats, released on Thursday, shows U.S. Rep. Connie Mack with a solid lead over his rivals -- former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, former U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon and businessman and retired Army officer Mike McCalister -- for the Republican nomination to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson. Unlike other polls, the survey shows Nelson beating Mack and LeMieux by 13 percent and McCalister and Weldon by 14 percent.

Passage of an upcoming constitutional amendment would increase Floridians' personal income by $5.3 billion over a 10-year period, according to a new study. While Wyman Duggan dropped out of the race this week to back Rep. Mike Weinstein, R-Jacksonville, another Republican entered the race to replace term-limited Sen. Steve Wise, R-Jacksonville -- prominent attorneyW.C. Gentry who has served on the Duval County School Board -- but then quickly announced he would not run. Gentry filed to run for the Senate seat on Thursday, but then announced that he was not going to actually run as it would require him to vacate his School Board seat.

Qualifying is wrapping up here in Tallahassee. Candidates have until noon Friday to file their paperwork to make the ballot. All eyes are on Sen. Jim Norman, R-Tampa, who represents parts of Hillsborough and Pasco counties, but has yet to qualify. Norman has drawn fire on ethical issues, prompting a federal investigation. In 2010, Norman survived a brutal primary battle with fellow Republican Kevin Ambler, then faced a token write-in-candidate in the general.

With the state due to respond later today to an order by the DOJ to halt the review, Rooney has sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder demanding that the DOJ stay out of the Florida issue.
