Jim Norman has Yet to Qualify for the Ballot
Qualifying is wrapping up here in Tallahassee. Candidates have until noon Friday to file their paperwork to make the ballot.
All eyes are on Sen. Jim Norman, R-Tampa, who represents parts of Hillsborough and Pasco counties, but has yet to qualify. Norman has drawn fire on ethical issues, prompting a federal investigation. In 2010, Norman survived a brutal primary battle with fellow Republican Kevin Ambler, then faced a token write-in-candidate in the general.
Norman has drawn serious opposition in the Republican primary this time around, including House Speaker Pro Tempore John Legg, R-Port Richey.
Sources tell Sunshine State News that some in the GOP leadership are working to get Norman out of the race, though they remain unsure as to what his intentions are.
As the clock winds down, Normans choice to run or drop out could rank as one of the most important last-minute decisions in this years qualifying process.
