Coalition Opposed to ‘Stand Your Ground’ to Rally Task Force

A coalition that includes New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the NAACP, the National Urban League and the parents of Trayvon Martin plan to hold a rally as the task force onStand Your Ground law meets in Longwood on Tuesday.

The Second Chance on Shoot First campaign coalition plans to deliver a petition with 340,000 names asking the governors Task Force on Citizen Safety and Protection to reform or repeal the Stand Your Ground law.

The task force -- created following the Feb. 26 shooting of Martin by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in Sanford -- is meeting Tuesday at Northland Church, 530 Dog Track Road, in the Central Florida community of Longwood.

The meeting, open to the public, is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Public comments will be taken after 1 p.m.

The rally, outside the church, is timed with the midday TV newscasts as the task force is scheduled for a one-hour break.
